Starfire Industries is a growing research and development company located in
Champaign, IL at the Research Park of the University of Illinois. We currently have 17 full-
time employees and 2 part-time undergraduate student researchers.
Our vision is to apply small business flexibility to high-risk, high-payback R/R&D efforts to
fulfill challenging commercial needs.
Starfire's core competency is in plasma engineering, where we are currently developing
advanced plasma technologies with application to nuclear fusion, industrial and
semiconductor processing, and space propulsion:
• Fusion neutron generators for materials inspection and homeland security
• High-power microwave plasma systems for semiconductor processing
• Advanced Hall thruster technology development for high thrust-to-power
• Microscale plasma discharges for optical metamaterials and picosatellite propulsion
• Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) light sources for next generation semiconductor lithography
We are looking for energetic people with interest or experience in plasma systems,
space propulsion, lasers and optics, electromagnetics, nuclear engineering, vacuum
science, materials science, semiconductor fabrication, and computational modeling.
